Gunmen killed 4 in a Kebbi immigration attack

At least four people were killed in an attack on Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) facilities in Kebbi state.

Kenneth Udo, NIS spokesperson, confirmed the attacks occurred on Friday night in Kangiwa Local Government Area of the state.

Udo, a deputy comptroller, stated that a watchman and three contractors were killed, but no NIS staff members were harmed.

In a statement, Udo explained, “A suspected terrorist group attacked Border facilities and contractors at the Kangiwa Border in Kebbi on Friday, January 10, 2025, at around 7:20 PM.”

The attack resulted in four deaths: a local watchman and three contractors. No immigration officers were killed, but significant damage occurred to the Border facilities.

The NIS expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured that efforts were underway with other security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators.

The NIS reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining Border Security in support of National Security goals.

The attack coincides with reports of the Lakurawa terrorist group’s presence in the state.

Earlier, on January 3, suspected Lakurawa bandits killed two police officers in a gunfight in Natsini village, Argungu Local Government Area.

On January 10, the group also killed three Airtel employees while they were setting up a surveillance mast in the region.
