Bayelsa deputy governor collapses, hospitalized

The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, was urgently taken to the hospital after he suddenly collapsed inside the Government House in Yenagoa on Thursday afternoon. DWORLDGIST learned that the incident happened unexpectedly, and although the exact cause of the collapse has not been determined, insiders described the situation as concerning.

According to one source, Ewhrudjakpo was immediately transported to the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa for emergency treatment. However, this could not be independently verified, as the hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Ben Akpedi, did not answer calls for confirmation.

When reached by phone, the deputy governor’s media aide, Doubara Atasi, acknowledged that the incident occurred but refused to provide additional details. He simply responded “Yes” when asked to confirm the collapse and then ended the call.

The report comes after Ewhrudjakpo was noticeably absent in October when Governor Douye Diri announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party. At the time, Diri revealed he was leaving the PDP to join the All Progressives Congress, along with members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly. However, nothing was said about Ewhrudjakpo’s stance, and he did not appear at the meeting.

Governor Diri’s departure from the PDP was announced during an expanded Executive Council session at Government House, attended by top state officials including the Speaker of the House, Abraham Ingobere, and his deputy, Michael Ogbere. Diri’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, confirmed the development, explaining that the governor’s decision came after wide consultations with political leaders. Diri thanked supporters for standing by him and encouraged them to remain committed as he works toward building a more stable and prosperous Bayelsa.
