The Zone 2 Police Command in Lagos has announced the approval of four checkpoints along the Seme border corridor to address the proliferation of illegal checkpoints and cases of extortion. This decision was reached during a security meeting chaired by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, with various security agencies at the Command Headquarters in Lagos. The Zonal Public Relations Officer, CSP Umma Ayuba, disclosed this in a statement, emphasizing the importance of restoring order and promoting economic growth along the border route.
The meeting brought together key security stakeholders, including representatives from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Customs Service, Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and the Nigeria Police Force. They agreed to establish a joint task force comprising personnel from all participating agencies to oversee and enforce compliance at the four designated checkpoints: Seme Point, Gbaji Point, Apa Point, and Agbara Point. The task force aims to ensure robust security and improve synergy in combating crime along the border corridor.
