Tragedy Strikes: Truck Claims the Lives of 9 Family Members in Benue

A tragic incident unfolded in Okete, a peaceful community within the Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State, when a truck veered into a residential building early Thursday morning, claiming the lives of nine family members.

According to sources, the heartbreaking event took place at approximately 5 a.m. while the family was still asleep.

Reports gathered revealed that the truck experienced brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and crash into the house located along the roadside.

An eyewitness, who chose to remain anonymous due to lack of authorization to speak to the media, recounted, “The crash occurred early this morning when most residents were still sleeping. The loud noise from the accident startled the neighbors awake.”

In a related development, similar tragedies have previously been reported, such as a man taking his life after selling a plot of land to three different buyers in Benue, and victims of food stampedes being buried amidst tears in Anambra.

The Benue State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, Catherine Anene. She stated, “A truck collided with a residential building, resulting in the death of nine family members. The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday.”

She further disclosed that the police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the crash and assured the public that more details would be shared as inquiries progress.
